Ride-hailing app Uber on Thursday launched ‘Driver Compliments’ feature in India, empowering riders to acknowledge and encourage good behaviour on part of their drivers.
“Last month, we launched community guidelines with the objective of encouraging mutual respect and we are now excited to introduce ‘Compliments’,” Pradeep Parameswaran, Head, Central Operation at Uber India, said in a statement.
“We hope our riders take a moment to express their appreciation by using this feature. It will encourage our driver partners to do even better!” he added.
Once a rider leaves a compliment, drivers will get a notification in app, taking them to the message and the compliments badge they have collected – whether that is for expert navigation, great music choice or excellent service.
Earlier this week, Uber India said it was hiring more techies for its engineering centres in the country as it looks to roll out more innovations from India in areas like payments, bookings and rider and driver experience. The company is also in discussion with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to enable customers pay for rides using UPI.
“We are hiring rapidly. We are looking for product managers, data scientists, designers etc,” Uber India Head of Engineering Apurva Dalal told reporters in New Delhi.
Uber has two engineering centres in India – in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. It currently has about 100 people in these two centres. Dalal, however, did not comment on how many people Uber is hiring. The teams work on areas like safety, payments, driver growth, maps, vehicle telematics and rider experience, among others.
